FAQ

Are there any restrictions on flying by private jet to El Salvador?
We can arrange for private jet flights to and within El Salvador with as little as 24 hours' notice. The country maintains a straightforward regulatory environment for business aviation, with both international and domestic charter flights readily available. International arrivals are primarily handled through Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL) and Ilopango Airport (ILS), the latter located just minutes from downtown San Salvador.
Can I fly by helicopter between El Salvador and neighboring countries?
Yes. Cross-border helicopter flights are one of the most distinctive features of private aviation in Central America. Our customers typically ask for the following flights: San Salvador - Guatemala City (approx. 60 minutes), San Salvador - Tegucigalpa (1h15min), and San Salvador - Managua (2h 15min). Thanks to customs and immigration facilities at both Salamanca Helicenter and Helipuerto 503, international helicopter operations can be conducted efficiently. Opened in 2025, both facilities offer modern infrastructure for business travelers and tourists arriving directly in the heart of San Salvador. Our personal favorite is Salamanca Helicenter, due to modern infrastructure nad proximity to the upscale Santa Tecla neighborhood.
How many airports are there in El Salvador?
As of April 2026, El Salvador has 13 certified airports and airfields , four of which feature paved runways suitable for private jet operations. The country also has 15 certified helipads, including Millennium Tower, our favorite due to its central location in San Salvador. The vast majority of private jet flights arrive at Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL), while shorter regional flights and general aviation operations are typically conducted through Ilopango Airport (ILS).
Can I fly to Santa Ana Volcano by helicopter?
Yes. Our one-hour helicopter tour includes an overflight of Santa Ana Volcano and Lake Coatepeque, two of El Salvador's most iconic natural landmarks. Guests can also enjoy aerial views of Los Volcanes National Park and other volcanoes located within easy flying distance of San Salvador.

Hiring a private aircraft to and from El Salvador

Although relatively small - roughly equivalent to the U.S. state of New Jersey - El Salvador offers a remarkable diversity of landscapes and destinations, many of which are best reached by helicopter. As of April 2026, only 17 aircraft are certified for air taxi operations in El Salvador, ranging from Bell JetRanger helicopters to cost-effective Cessna 421 turboprops. For private jet charters, Flapper leverages a broader fleet based throughout Central America and beyond, ensuring access to a wide range of aircraft categories.

San Salvador's Ilopango Airport is home to the majority of El Salvador's general aviation fleet.

El Salvador is served by a network of 13 airports and airfields, four of which feature paved runways suitable for jet operations. These include the recently inaugurated Aeródromo El Jagüey in El Tamarindo, providing convenient access to the eastern department of La Unión, and El Zapote Airport, which serves the western department of Ahuachapán. Thanks to customs and immigration facilities at both Salamanca Helicenter and Helipuerto 503, international helicopter flights to neighboring Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua can be arranged with ease.
